The stress of day to day life in which married couples must meet family obligations, deadlines, and often care for children can take a toll on a marriage over a period of time. It is all too easy to fall into a daily routine and the monotony of it can cause a couple to become bored with each other. To avoid this many couples have began utilizing a date night weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
A date night can be a wonderful way in which to bring back the intimacy in a marriage or partnership of many years. Newlyweds would do well to follow suit and reserve a weekly date night lest they, too, become bored with their marriage and each other. However, the success of any frequency in date night lies in the variety of date night activities. Consider the following ideas for a romantic evening for two.
Make Arrangements for Childcare
If children are involved in the union make arrangements at least once a month for childcare and take your date night away from your home. Nothing could be worse than having date night interrupted with a ringing telephone or waking child to squash the romantic mood of the evening.
Romantic Dinner for Two
A romantic dinner for two is at the top of the list for most couples. Do not make the mistake of over using a trip to a favorite restaurant as date night. However, when you do decide that is what you would like to do for the evening planning in advance will allow time to make reservations at a finer restaurant. Though it may cost more to dine at a finer restaurant, the romantic rewards of candlelight, soft music, and a table for two can be well worth the extra expense.
An Evening Stroll
An evening stroll in the park or along the beach can be very romantic if taken during suitable weather. Allow plenty of time for your walk and consider taking a blanket on which to sit and stargaze.
A Picnic
Spring, summer, and fall weather is suitable in most areas for an early evening picnic. Pack a picnic basket with finger foods and take a blanket to sit on. Grapes, cheeses, crackers, finger sandwiches, and a bottle of your favorite beverage or wine can set the mood for a tender evening. A small portable radio can provide soft background music for lovers.
Late Night Carriage Ride
In larger cities horse drawn carriages are available for a romantic ride through the streets. A cool evening and a blanket to snuggle close together under can make an enticing evening.
Home Movie Night
Snuggling on the couch watching home movies from early years of a marriage can bring back fond romantic memories. Pop some popcorn or break open a bottle of wine and snuggle up on the couch.
An alternative to home movies is a trip to a movie rental store for a couple of romance themed movies.
Dinner and Dancing at Home
A romantic dinner for two does not necessarily mean a night out at an expensive restaurant. Bring out the tablecloth, fine china, and candles for a romantic evening at home. Play soft background music by using a multiple disc player and follow dinner with a few close dances.
These are but a few ideas for a romantic date night. Think back to when you first met and the things you loved doing together. I am sure with a little imagination and creativity you can add quite a bit of spice to your relationship.
