Yes, civility is needed in politics and in all areas of life. Reporters in the media started this conversation by spinning and labeling a tragedy as the shooting in Arizona where some people died and the democratic representative Gabrielle Gifford was shot in the head, thank God she is doing better and better, as if it had anything to do with politics. Now the conversation they started in order to take political advantage is coming to bite them as a beehive. I hope they have civility protection themselves because the conversation will include them.
In this article I will not mention any politician by their name because I don’t want to defend civility and at the same time be found guilty of being uncivilized and irresponsible in my comments.
Civility could be a mask that people might use in politics but not at home or other areas of life to gain political points. Civility could also be the result of civility of the heart. When people act in a civilized manner it is usually because that is the way they are. Do we really want politicians with their civilized masks when campaigning or just commenting on politics, or do we want them to be genuinely open so we can see what is inside? In order for us to make a good decision on the polls, we need politicians to behave the way they are. Anybody can act civilized hypocritically. It happens every day in all areas of life. We don’t want to be celebrating Halloween everyday in politics, do we?
I actually believe that it is better for people to act the way they really are and not as it is convenient in order to fool us so they can be elected. I also believe we can’t demand politicians to be something different from what we are not. We also elect politicians without doing a background history check on them but based on what they say, although contradictory sometimes, and then we complain when they act according to what their history was telling about them all the time. We marry a man or man marries a woman without knowing them and then we complain.
This conversation we are involved in here, as I mentioned above, reporters brought it as if uncivilized politics had anything to do with a mentally ill person, like the one that shot a ex-president Ronald Regan trying to impressed an actress he was infatuated with, acting on his whatever crazy fantasy he was having. If we are civilized thinkers we should know this fact. One thing about reporters is that you never hear scandals coming from
