Many locations for field trips are science related. The best field trips for homeschooling are something that the kids will enjoy to keep them interested in the exciting world of science. Here are five great field trips for teaching science to homeschooled children.
Botanical gardens
There are botanical gardens all over the United States, so a field trip to visit shouldn't be very difficult, though you may have to drive awhile. The children can learn different species of plant life and what part they play in nature. They can learn everything from what types of plants are carnivorous to how much rainfall specific plants need to survive. It is such a beautiful place to be, with so many things to look at, that it touches people on a deep level. On your way home, you can use the car trip to discuss what they learned at the botanical garden.
Planetarium
Another place to take them is to the planetarium. There they can learn about stars, planets, galaxies, and great vast distances. Looking up at the stars will be more educational than ever. Shows at the planetarium usually let you get in and out within an hour, so finding something inside to visit afterwards can really make a difference. The children can ask the people any questions they want about constellations and the life of stars. At the planetarium, there are people that will help school them about science while you help them have a fun time.
Fish Hatcheries
Hatcheries are wonderful places to take any child. They can learn about fish as well as feed them. Most hatcheries have someone that will show you around, tell you what is in each pond, show pictures, explain life cycles, and show you what their job is at the hatchery. After a day there, you can even take your kids on a fishing trip and show them the good outdoors. This experience keeps everyone busy and entertained.
Science museum
The science museum nearest you is probably the best place to take the children for a science field trip. They teach everything and have interactive displays that the children can touch and play with. They have all kinds of science to teach and do a great job doing it. Seeing a presentation there is very worthwhile and children will always remember their first trip to the science museum because it is so fun.
Science centers
Science centers, very similar to science museums, are a great place to go if they've already been to the science museum. This will give them new things to explore and new presentations to see. Most science centers even have special programs for homeschooled children so that they can get a hands-on exploration of fun science exhibits. Research your local science center online to see what they have available for your children.
After packing some lunches for the day, try heading on out to one of these locations. Field trips are fun for the whole family to go out and spend time together. It will also boost motivation and productivity at home, so everyone will get something wonderful out of the experience.
