Why a regular family night is important

In today's times the term "Family Night" has been long forgotten.  What with all the families having 2 parents working full-time & children in school or working along with extracurricular activities for the children there just isn't a whole lot of time for a family to sit down all together and enjoy "Quality Time".  I believe that each and every family should sit down and take at least 1 night each week and have a Family night.  Talking about the things that have taken place during that week, whether it be in school, work, sports, etc.  Giving each and every family member an opportunity to talk and to listen to what has happened for all others.  Or to just sit down and watch a good movie together would also be a nice idea.

We don't realize how fast time slips away from us and if we don't stop and take the time we may very well later have many regrets.  I know for myself, having family time has never been something that was much of a top priority.  However, over the last few years I have had several regrets only because I didn't stop and take the time to visit with the rest of my family.  It has taken several years and many many regrets to get me to the point in my life where I have taken a step back and looked at my life, my family and my friends.  I have seen so much and after taking that initial step back I have realized that it is now that I must take this opportunity.

We have family night at our home every Friday evening.  We sit down to dinner and visit.  Then after dinner we all get ready for bedtime and sit in front of the television watching programs on DVR or a movie, while having a snack such as popcorn or ice cream and we all talk and enjoy the quality time that we have.....the quality time that has been lost of most of people in today's society.  I think that if more people instill such a thing as Family night that there would be a lot less crime and problem children in the world today.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to sit down with your family and enjoy talking, finding out what has been happening in their life and letting them know what has been going on in yours as well.  I hope that everyone takes that initial step back to look at their lives and see where things such as a Family Night could be very beneficial to them and their families.
