Hispanic culture is well diversified throughout the different regions.  Through Mexico alone, there are different states with different beliefs and traditions.  A house warming gift for a Hispanic can be daunting to say the least.

Most Hispanic people are devout Catholics.  When moving to a new home it is a tradition to put up crucifixes.  These crosses are displayed in all areas of the home.  Have one blessed by the local priest, and the recipient will treasure it above all other gifts.  Other religious relics can be given, as well.

A gift basket full of food is a great idea for a housewarming gift.  Fill it full of peppers, tortillas, tomatoes, onions, or any staple.  Rice and beans should accompany the other food in the basket. Most Hispanic cultures have diets that include rice and beans with almost every meal.  Other food gifts are also appreciated.  Bake a cake and take it to the new home owners.  Traditional flan would be adored in a Hispanic household.  Bread is a very practical housewarming gift. In Latino communities it means that the person will never go hungry.  Salt can be given so there is "spice in life."  Wine is traditional so there will always be joy.  Other spices can also accompany the gifts in the basket.

Mexican pottery is a great housewarming gift.  There are many pieces starting out rather small, or one can go extremely large depending on financing and taste.  It is a thoughtful gift that can be placed indoors or out.  It can house real plants or fake.  In Mexico and in Mexican homes in the U.S., pottery is a mainstay. It is placed on mantels, shelves, and tables.  There are even Mexican kitchen pottery that is also useful.  Bean pots are a very nice gift.  It is beautiful and practical.  Mocajete's are well received.  They are used to crush the tomatoes and peppers for the traditional salsa.

Candles or a traditional luminary could also be given.  This signifies that the occupant will always have light.

Any gift that is given should be a statement of who the recipient is. Think carefully about the homeowner.  Any traditional gift will be well appreciated.  Buying a new home is always full of excitement. Placing new gifts that are given from the heart will thrill any new home owner.  Hispanic people are usually full of life and love any thoughtful gift.
