Poetry: The unknown

by Stephanie Monroy

Created on: January 19, 2011

I wake from my slumber hoping that it was all a dream

I look to my right but the space that once belonged to you is empty

This life I live now is unknown to me

I feel as I am a ghost drifting through another person's life

But it 's real, so I must willing embrace this unknown

Our children remind me how real it is everyday

When they ask me when are you coming back, I struggle to smile

They know but they still ask hoping the answer will be different this time

When  I am alone I cry and I struggle to breath

I long to join you, and a single slice to the flesh can take me there

To that unknown is where I desire to go

It does not matter where it is that you dwell

Wether it be in a dark, cold cave

Or the burning fire pits of hell

I would rather be in the unknown with you

But as the children enter the room crying, saying how much they miss you

I hold them close and realize it is in this unknown future with them where I belong

One day we will join you to explore your unknown

Together, forever
