Over the last few years a new skin care product called shielding lotions has emerged on the market. This new type of product is a lotion specially formulated to protect the skin's outer layers from irritants, whether it is in skin care products, chemicals in cleaning supplies or environmental factors. They are formulated to restore moisture and allow the skin to retain its own moisturize.

The skin reacts to every ingredient you use. For instance if you have oily skin and you are overly drying the skin with cleansers and such, the skin will react by producing more oil to alleviate the overly dry and tight skin. The same applies to moisturizers, when you put on a moisturizer the skin reacts and does not produce any more moisture therefore once the moisturizer wears off the hands or face are dry again. A shielding lotion will protect and hold in the skin's natural moisture and does not send mixed messages.

How many times have you used a moisturizer to alleviate the dry chapped skin on your face or your hands to no avail? Application of moisturizers only provide a temporary solution, thus application after application is needed to relieve the dryness. A shielding lotion will actually protect the hands and face and retain moisture. Dry itchy skin is nature's way of telling you that the outer layers of the skin have been damaged and stripped of its natural oils. Again, a shielding lotion will restore and strengthen the skin and prevent toxins and irritants from damaging the skin and robbing the much needed moisture it needs.

Shielding lotions are not your typical moisturizer cream or lotion. A moisturizer only provides moisture to the top layers of the skin and once the moisturizer wears off it is back to the dry skin problem. A shielding lotion however bonds with the skin thus protecting the skin for long periods of time and holds the skin's natural moisture in the deep layers of the skin.

I did a little research and found two products worth mentioning, they are Skin MD and Gloves in a Bottle. From the product descriptions I have read about these two items the Skin MD can be used on the face and hands, while the Gloves in a Bottle seems to be formulated for the hands.

If you suffer from extremely dry skin on the face or hands these types of products may help alleviate the dryness. As mentioned above shielding lotions protect the skin and hold the natural moisture in the skin.
