Taco was a cute, little chihuahua. He had been given to Allison just two weeks ago as a birthday gift. Allison loved Taco. She loved to walk him, carry him, feed him, pet him and cuddle with him at night in her bed. She liked to push him around in her baby carriage. But, most of all Allison liked to dress Taco up.
She dressed him in all kinds of outfits. Taco wore doll dresses, pajamas, shoes, hats and more. One time Allison dressed him up as a scuba diver. Taco wore giant goggles and flippers. Allison laughed and laughed. Taco seemed to be enjoying himself too. Allison liked to dress Taco up as a clown with a red, curly wig and a big, red nose. Sometimes she'd dress him up as a pirate; but, it was hard for him to see with a patch over one eye.
When Allison walked Taco around her neighborhood all dressed up people stopped and stared. Some people even told Allison that they thought that maybe her little chihuahua wasn't enjoying himself. Maybe he didn't like being dressed up. But Allison knew they were wrong. She could see the twinkle in Taco's eyes when he was doing his favorite thing...modeling new outfits. He loved it. She was sure of it.
One day it was time for Allison and Taco to go to a baby-sitter's for the evening. Allison was so happy that Taco could come too. She was so happy in fact that she forgot to bring along Taco's costumes. She was already seat-belted into the car with her parents with Taco in his dog carrier beside her when she realized this.
" I left all of Taco's clothes at home! " she cried to her mom and dad from the backseat. "We have to go back!"
" Oh, honey, Taco doesn't really like getting all dressed up in those costumes. He's a dog. Dogs just don't wear clothes. Or like to for that matter ," her mother replied. So Allison sat in silence all the way to the baby-sitter's house.
Fifteen minutes later, they had arrived. Allison's dad carried Taco inside his carrier and Allison held her mother's hand. When they got to the door, Allison's babysitter, her Aunt Nancy, was already at the door to greet them.
"Oh, you brought your new doggy! He's such a cutie! What does he like to do for fun, Allison?" Aunt Nancy asked, " Does he do any tricks? Does he like to play fetch? " Allison looked down sadly.
