Poetry: Cancer

There's a monster that moves within our midst
With an unsatiable hunger, it preys
It's victim's names fill a non-ending list
As both the young and the old, it so craves

No conscience, no tears, he's straight out of Hell
This monster shows no sign of retreating
He sweeps all through the world, knowing so well
The many lives his visits, keep deleting

Does no good run, there's no use to hide
As he goes devouring all in his path
Sometimes he chooses to sleep there inside
Before stirring, and bestowing his wrath

Many have wrestled this monster, and then
When they think that they may have won the fight
He rears up his head, a vengeance in him
That he inflicts with all of his renewed might

He's taken more lives than all the great wars
To defeat him, we search for the answer
This warrior, so dark, through the world soars
A killer, that's known only as 'Cancer'.
