(Not!)
Whenever I read one of these announcements like the one recently attributed to "Parke Kunkle" (allegedly an astronomer with a Minnesota planetarium) asserting that the signs of the zodiac have changed, there's now thirteen of them and we're all different signs than we thought we were, it always makes me wonder why scientists - who make no secret of their assertion that all claims of "paranormally-related phenomena" (astrology, psychic powers, ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot, etc.) are simply "pure bunk" - seem to spend so much of their time and energy writing articles and putting out press releases that apparently serve no purpose other than as obvious attempts to discredit the very things they claim are unworthy of further study?
One popular astrology blogger suggested we of the "paranormal community" start putting out random press releases with subject lines like: "Recently discovered forensic evidence linked to Columbus suggests famous discoverer actually met his doom when his ship fell off the edge of the Earth during his famous voyage to establish 'spherical Earth theory'" just to get even.
For my part, this latest nonsense by Mr. Kunkle only demonstrates, once again, the scientific community's total lack of familiarity with the principles of real Astrology and how it works. I'd venture to guess that Parke has never had his natal chart cast by an actual astrologer because he seems to share the erroneous (but popular) misconception of many people that "Sun Sign Astrology" ("the daily horoscope" you read in the newspaper) is all there is to it.
I assure you that he (and they) couldn't be more wrong... He forgets that it is astrology that is the mother of Astronomy - not the other way around. And that all of the parameters that make up the practice of Astrology are based upon the detailed and keen observations and notations of the Ancients, on a daily basis, of the movements of all the stars, planets, luminaries, etc., over centuries.
First of all, for anyone to say that there are more than 12 signs of the Zodiac is the same thing as saying there's an "extra hidden month of the year" that we don't know about. It's patently ridiculous! The circle of the zodiac is divided by 12 because a circle is 360 degrees and 12 divides neatly into that number without making the interval for each sign too long or too brief. This is where the moon comes into play because the phases of the Moon cycle in approximately 30-day intervals. This pattern
