The greatest NFL dynasties of all time

by Chad Morgan

Created on: January 16, 2011

When goes to looking at the greatest NFL dynasties of all time, the very first criteria that must be used to evaluate is Super Bowl and World Championship wins.  The National Football League has been producing professional football for almost 100 years and from those early days of the 1920's and 30's, NFL dynasties were being born.  This could be said of the early George Halas Chicago Bears teams who won World Championships and the Sammy Baugh led Washington Redskins who were right along with the Bears at the time.  The 1950's and the 1960's seen big teams from the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys who would battle for World title year in and year out.  When a big time football fan thinks of dynasties though they think of the television era, the time when football became a part of the American fabric and fans from all over the world could cheer for any team that they wanted.

With it being Super Bowl time and one of the biggest dynasties of all time in the New England Patriots in the running for another Super Bowl title, it is best to look at the dynasties who made a huge name for themselves and would eventually win it all.  With that being said, the first dynasty that should be mentioned is the Green Bay Packers of the 1960's.  This was the team that would win the first two Super Bowls and do it on the arm of the legendary quarterback Bart Starr.  Alot of people seem to forget that this was same Packer team that  won the NFL World Championship in 1961, 1962, and 1965 before they won the two Super Bowls.  This team was led by the legendary head coach Vince Lombardi, who the Super Bowl trophy is named after.  Folks like Jim Taylor, Paul Hourning, Forrest Gregg, Jerry Kramer, Willie Davis, Henry Jordan, Ray Nitschke, and Herb Adderley led the team during these glory years.

Fast foward to the 1970's and NFL football was becoming the American pasttime and icon that it is today.  It was during these years that more television exposure brought in huge sponsorships and more and more revenue to the league.  When a person talks about a dynasty and the 1970's the very first team that comes to mind is the team that won four Super Bowl's during the decade.  They were led by the one and only Terry Bradshaw and it is the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Steelers would win seven division titles and four AFC titles during the decade and the result of all four of their confrence championships resulted into
