Developing and sticking to a family budget

Keep to basic needs first. Take a look of how many perishable items you discard every week. Do you have to have four kinds of lettuce and a variety of unseasonable and expensive fruit? If your refrigerator is crowded with moldy cheese, outdated yogurt, and rotted fruit and veggies, perhaps you are purchasing too much.

Thanks to Internet, you can do some comparison shopping on the Internet. Most stores have Internet sites which include their weekly specials. If you consider that the daily newspaper is an essential, clip coupons, and respond to sales. Make your shopping list around the weekly specials that are most agreeable to you and your family. And, don't buy something just because it's on sale. Otherwise, it ends up as an unnecessary purchase.

Cut back or out on smoking, drinking and recreational drugs. Suspend all unnecessary credit-card spending for at least 2 months. Live lean for a bit! With money that gets saved during this time, set part aside to pay off credit cards and set part aside for something the entire family votes to do with. Reward for saving is good. Like dieting. Within 3 months you will be able to identify and repair cash leaks, cut wasteful spending and start saving for a night at the movies or a romantic dinner with your spouse.
