Poetry: Reflections of reality

In our hearts there is a pantry
That holds special recipes
Ingredients carefully prepared
Not all do spread with ease

One is a jar of Love
The flavor, oh, so sweet
Never to be offered in haste
It's a very special treat

Never spread too thinly
Likewise, not too thick
A delicate concoction
That often fails to stick

The second, a jar of Lust
With deceit, so carefully laced
Often mistaken for Love
But leaves a bitter aftertaste

I've sampled from this jar
Ah, but a time or two
Now the lid is tightly sealed
A most destructive brew

The third jar holding Hate
The color ravaging red
A potent taste long-lasting
As so thickly it is spread

Just a thin line in this pantry
Divides sweet Love from Hate
Sometmes the two combine
Love suffers a horrible fate

Use caution as you spread
Happiness, woe or strife
For what you offer others
May remain with them for life
