Poetry: You did not love me

by Shunmeco Cooley

Created on: January 10, 2011

Denial has been my best friend

Since my body's first utterance of pregnancy

Holding my hardened belly immersed in life's water

Silently I sit in numbing pain

I've played the role of  the jovial fool

Now I realize that you really did not love me

Late night escapades in black stiletto heels with you

Baby soft feet with manicured toenails glazed with silver glitter

Do you remember the gold anklet that hung sweetly with my

Initials and yours etched in diamonds?

Many nights I traveled ditching my worries just to escape in

Your muscular arms and the fantasies of your lies

Here I would be free from being unloved

Untouched

Companion-less

Free from the tight cold grip of loneliness

I have only myself to blame for taking comfort

From your empty hands

You'd give me that charming grin

Although you said you and her were  over

My loneliness won over your lies with the razor's edge

I let you back in my heart over and over

Until the "ish" hit the fan

Only to realize that you never really did love me
