Americans love keeping pet cats around the household for companionship. Cats are independent animals that still need the love and attention of dogs. In the United States, there are many cat breeds that are common in the home. Here are some of the most popular cat breeds that Americans have taken a liking to.
The Persian
This flat faced long haired cat is known for its grumpy appearance and fluffy fur. These cats may look angry, but they are so gentle and quiet. They are not the energetic type and find comfort in cuddling with their masters, which makes them very popular for seniors and even docile children. They are not shy around strangers and have vivid personalities for being so laid back. The Persian comes in a wide range of colors from calico, grey, tortie, and black to orange and white.
The Abyssinian
Abyssinian cats have originated from Egypt but have found a home all across the United States. These cats have awfully short fur which makes grooming easier than long hair cats. They have alert eyes and a long graceful body. What makes them popular is that they enjoy to play and are super energetic, they will chase and even retrieve items back to their owners much like a dog. They can play with a toy they like all day long as they will give much attention to something they are drawn to. Abyssinians are usually only in the sandy brown hue of coloring, although some mutations are out there as well as the rare albino.
The Burmese
This sleek breed of cat comes in the colors of sable, soft grey, and black. Their eyes are large and round, full of curiosity and they have small triangular ears. They love attention and will call out to their owners most of the time, especially if they are bored and want some recognition. They social personalities make them one of the most well liked, especially among families with young and old individuals.
The Ragdoll
This color point breed of cat is known for its cute appearance and fluffy long fur. They usually have clear blue or green eyes with a small pink nose and a face full of inquisitiveness. Ragdolls are known for being one of the easiest cat breeds to care for, which makes them popular with children as a first time cat. They enjoy to roughhouse and also known when it is time for relaxation. One of their most known traits is being extremely shy to strangers but often warming up after getting to know them better.
These cat breeds are the most popular in the United States for many reasons. They are effortless to handle, easy on the eyes, and adore the attention of all humans.
