Guide to ski resorts in the Rocky Mountains

Breckenridge

If you are a skier who is looking for a great nightlife, you will enjoy Breckenridge. This mountain, which is famous for its superb beginner terrain, has a trail variety that is suitable for skiers of all levels. This year, everyone is talking about the new gondola at Breckenridge. It will be located at the town's transportation center off Main Street.

The Breckenridge Connect will travel to Peak 7 and Peak 8. It can carry 3,000 passengers per hour, means that there will be fewer people crowding on to buses to the mountain. Another exciting edition to Breckenridge Resort is the high-speed Imperial Express, which goes to 12,840 feet on the summit of Peak 8. This is the highest lift in the United States.

Like most American resorts, lift ticket prices will very drastically, depending on when you go. Lift ticket prices can be as low as $45 in early season, and as high as $81 during holidays. In general, lift tickets may be less expensive with a lodging package. You can explore the different ticket options by visiting www.snow.breckenridge.com

If you decide on Breckenridge for your Rocky Mountain ski vacation, you will fly into Denver International Airport. If you would prefer to go "car free," consider using the Colorado Mountain Express ridecme.com, 1-800-525-6363, which travels from the airport to the various resorts. If you are traveling with limited luggage, you can get a discount rate by making your reservation online, and taking the shuttle to the Frisco Transportation Center. From Frisco, board the free Summit Stage to Breckenridge, where the free local Breckenridge bus system can drop you off near your hotel. If you are traveling with lots of gear and luggage, you might prefer to pay a higher rate and have Colorado Mountain Express drop you off directly at your hotel. Where should you stay? Here are a few options.

If you are looking for ski in/ski out, the Beaver Run is the most complete lodging complex in Breckenridge. Walk out your door and you will be right at the lift to the top of Peak 9. If there are beginner skiers in your group, you can ski down to the Quicksilver Lift. This gives you access to the Silverthorne Trail, which is a long flat beginner trail. The complex features amenities such as a pool, hot tub and shuttle service into town. For information, call 1-800-265-3560.

If you are looking for discount lodging, visit http://www.hocksnest.com. The website features a complete variety of condos throughout the Breckenridge
