"Mom's Getaway"

Five minutes on Highway 41

Driving eighty miles per hour.

Blaring my favorite music

Without a second thought

Of a little person in the back seat.

I roll the windows down,

Pretend I’m in a convertible.

It feels so good to know I’m still me.

I’m heading south,

Things are better south.

I reach my destination,

Need to record my thoughts.

Glorious thoughts.

I find my notebook. Search for a pen.

Find half of a brown crayon.

I guess this is what it means,

Now, and forever, a mom.
