I catch glimpses of you...

Through windows boarded and shuttered

In your fear and misery

I hear your voice echo

Down hollow halls

Off walls grown thick

With cynicism and disdain

Calling to God

To help you,

Free you from your pain

I am a tiny blossom

Among the stinking, rotting vines...

Silenced by your harshness, yet

I grow stronger day by day

Fed secretly

By a single shining ray

Of light from deep within you…

I spread my petals

And weave my way

Into your emptiness

Planting my seeds of hope

Bowing my head

To avoid being trampled

As you stalk by…

Arrogant in your loneliness

You seem startled

By the haunting scent of

My joy

As it mingles with

The dust unsettled by

Your pacing

Faith makes me daring

I stand my ground

As you search for me...

A spiritual David

Threatened by your hatefulness,

Your Goliath

Your anger

Pounds against me

In waves

As you near…

Yet God is my protector

Shielding me from the blows

Recognition

A light behind ravaged,

Pain-filled eyes

As we stare at one another

And realize...
