Teachers are some of the most versatile professionals available in the career world. Therefore the opportunities to work from home are multiple and exciting. Regardless if you are a retired teacher or a mother who needs to be at home there are opportunities out there.

The closest connected to the education profession is tutoring or lecturing. You can either make your skills available to a local college or join a tutoring service.  You will only work a certain amount of hours per day or week and you can determine how much or how little you want to work. You can even do tutoring in your own home. There are many parents who choose to homeschool their children these days because of several reason. Very few of these parents are qualified educators and in certain subjects such as mathematics, science and languages there is always a need for extra tutoring. Even children who attend a school sometimes need extra tutoring in subjects they find difficult.

Still in the field of education there is curriculum development, textbook writing and lesson plan development. These are things you did while you were teaching and there is no reason you can't use these skills to develop this for someone else or create your own home based business doing what you do best.

If you want to explore a different field outside education there is no reason you cannot.  Who is a teacher really?  A teacher is a educator, manager, negotiator, improviser, actor, nurse, preacher, social worker, secretary, typist and domestic worker. If you think carefully you will realised you performed most of these roles many a time.

The easiest is to write about your subject as you would not need to do much research and would be able to write with real authority about something you know well.

Starting a blog can also be very rewarding. Some people manage to make some good money from blogs and the real advantage of a blog is that it is your own voice and nobody can tell you what or how to write.

There are a few online agencies which will help you to start your own call centre job from home.  The customer support market is large and becoming much larger with the addition of the many virtual shops. Teacher will make excellent call centre personnel as they are the ultimate negotiators and marketers. 

While there are opportunities there to again work for someone else from home it might be far more rewarding to work for yourself. Sometimes people are so scared to let go of their safety nets that they miss wonderful opportunities.
