Tips on setting goals that you can reach

The key principle to setting attainable goals is making goals easier to attain. It sounds simple doesn't it? The problem arises when people begin to make the goal posts so high that they cannot live up to even their own expectations. The smoker who should have quit yesterday won't quit on a whim. The overweight won't lose two sizes overnight. The part that is missing when people make resolutions or promises to themselves is that “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” It simply isn't enough to want to do something. What is needed is more than that, in order to reach the goals made. In life, what is put in is always repaid, and that applies to setting goals within the life being lived in so many other areas that physical goals. Spiritual growth doesn't come to he who waits for it to happen. All attainable goals take effort to reach.

Setting up firm goalposts

Goalposts should be attainable ones. Often people who are doing something wrong in their lives have that feeling of incompleteness. They know they weigh too much, or they know that they smoke. Similarly those with spiritual weakness or lack of belief can feel unfulfilled. Being in a state where someone feels less than perfect, they need to work out how to get beyond those faults and learn to appreciate who they are. The reason for this is that if a person has little belief in themselves, they are unlikely to respect any goals they set themselves, and will always find a reason why they failed. Usually this comes in the form of blaming themselves, and thus adding to the heavy burden of increased self esteem issues.

So how does one set firm goals when expecting failure. Setting up new goal posts to break the vicious cycle of failure helps. For example, small achievements can be measured and gradually those goal posts made harder. Start with simple. For example, those who don't get up in the mornings very wide awake could easily set the goal to get up at a set time. It sounds basic and fundamental but it isn't. By setting goals which are easily achievable, those with self esteem issues begin to feel good about themselves. These small things which seem unimportant have a lasting effect, if the goals are in place every day to re-affirm success.

Achieving success

Look at a tiny bad habit. Everyone has them. Perhaps you go to bed at night and forget to say a prayer. Perhaps the underwear drawer is always untidy. It doesn't matter what the goal is, as long as it is easy to achieve success.
