Learning to play the guitar can be a very enjoyable experience. There are several ways to go about learning the guitar and each person has to decide which method, or combination of methods, is going to work the best.

For the guitar player who is a beginner, taking music lessons can be an essential step in learning how to play the guitar. When you take music lessons, you are getting the basics that every guitar players needs to know. While the Internet and videos are great, they don’t catch mistakes that you might make. Taking lessons from a good teacher can give you some valuable experience that you can then use to teach yourself if that is what you wish to do. While lessons can be expensive, it is the easiest and quickest way to learn how to play guitar.
The Internet
Going online and searching for information on guitar playing is a great way to learn how to play guitar. If you already know the basics such as a few chords, you can use the knowledge on the Internet to further enhance your playing. Sites such as YouTube feature hundreds of free videos on learning how to play guitar that can be of benefit to the guitarist. You could spend all day on just YouTube and never learn all the material there. You can visit other music sites and even sign up for lesson programs that stream video and music straight to your computer from a professional guitar teacher. You need to pay a fee, but it is about the same as you would pay for regular lessons at a music school.
DVDs and Books
There’s an enormous amount of great DVDs and books when it comes to learning the guitar. You can subscribe to music magazines such as Guitar Player and Guitar World. There are books available on all kinds of guitar topics such as blues, rock, classical, music theory, how to solo and many other topics. You can find DVDs too, which will provide you hours of great instruction to watch and learn from. You can buy software programs to teach you about music too.
Learn from Others
Another way to learn guitar is to simply hang around with other people who play the instrument. This is a great way to gather musical knowledge and find out more about playing. Try to get into jam sessions and learn all you can that way too.
