The scent of books is intoxicating.
It smells of ancient,
Of an antique perfume.
Piles of books align neatly,
Queue in line,
Straight like an army.
Against each other,
They lean so close.
As if readying for a battle.
Then,
I could hear whispers among them all.
One whisper exhales one kind of scent.
That it spells unique,
Antique; and
Simply aromatic.
Breeze blows softly,
carrying the scent to me.
It lures my hunger,
licks at my desire,
and teases my patience.
I couldn’t help but to breathe in again.
Then I realize,
Each fragrant tells the age,
the stories and the value within.
Books…
offers more than just words.
Rows and rows of books you may observe from away.
Take a step closer.
Fret not to take a deep breath.
See if you’re able to inhale
the stories within;
the very unique scent of a book.

Leaning on their sides
Standing straight up
Stiff spines
Piled so high
I fear an avalanche
At any time.

So many old friends
Staring from the shelves.
Waiting like soldiers
Before a battle,
Gathering dust.
They sing to me
Sad songs,
