The one child policy that China's communist government has instituted has created several problems to be dealt with. This one child policy allows each couple to have a single son or daughter. Although this may seem like a good campaign due to the overpopulation in China, it is not. The problems consist of a rapid rise in the rate of abortions, fewer females, and a generation of spoiled children.
Abortion has become a grim way of life in China and procreation has become government regulated. Women in China conduct sex tests on themselves while pregnant to see if the child is a male or female. If the child is a female then they get an abortion, pay the fine, leave their homes, go into hiding or bribe the official. In years past, China was very different in this aspect, but the reason was because China was not so overpopulated at that time. Although, as time progressed the one child policy was instituted and it stated that each couple is allowed to have one male and one female child, so when you are going to have two boys/girls.
The male population steadily rises as the female population slowly declines. In 1980 it was reported in some areas that there was a ratio of 110 males to 100 females. There is a floating population of hidden females who are not registered that is an outrageous 40 million. Many little girls go unregistered all their lives and therefore can not gte any food or go to school anywhere.
As we move into the future we will be able to see a generation of spoiled children because of the over population in China. Deane says that it is obvious just driving down the streets seeing the number of overweight children. Over the last 10 years Dr. Ni Guichen reports that their former problem of malnutrition has not been the problem but rather obesity in children. This happens because the population is too large, therefore families can only have one child now, and because of that they spoil that one child too much.
