"Incoming," Eddie yelled ducking behind the ice wall. Snowballs rained down around him and his best friends Jennie and Quentin, exploding on contact leaving ice pellet shrapnel in its' wake.
"We need reinforcements," Jennie exclaimed catching her breath. The snow was wet, a perfect consistency for packing. They worked at lightening speed to renew the supply.
"Not gonna happen," said Quentin. Wham! A snowball honed in on his nose like a heat-seeking missile He flew backward toppling them all like dominoes.
As they scrambled up an ominous shadow loomed above and an eerie silence settled around them.
Mr. Norton, the PE Teacher was a giant of a man. Cold fog billowed from his nostrils as he clenched his black gloved fists. Flanking his sides were four grade seven footballers, Mr. Norton's favorites.
"You kids seem to be having some trouble," Mr. Norton growled. School rules did not allow snowball fights and anyone caught would be sent to detention, maybe suspended.
Quentin groaned when Jennie turned in all her four foot eleven inch glory and piped up, "We can't just let them pummel us every time we head for home. Just cause we're in Glee Club they think we're wimpy geeks. Well, we're not and we don't care what we have to do to show them we won't be bullied!"
"Yeah," exclaimed Eddie as he and Quentin jumped up to stand at Jennie's side. "We're not afraid of anyone."
Mr. Norton looked to his sidekicks, "What do you say boys, are you up for a little old-fashioned snowball fight?"
"Bring it on," they shouted as they scooped up the stockpile of snowballs.
Mr. Norton dropped to his knees and crooked his finger at the three kids. They moved in closer as a rare smile broke out on his face, "Principal Winston is absent today. Looks like those bullies are in need of a little lesson."
Eddie, Jennie and Quentin walked into Glee Club. A few new members sat dejectedly in their seats, all sporting conspicuous black eyes. Just then Mr. Norton popped his head in the door and winked, "Welcome to Glee Club Kids."
