Summer's here, kids are at home; so what do you do when they say, "I'm bored!"  Taking them to a movie is always a fun summertime activity, but with children ticket prices being at least $7.50, it may end up being quite a strain on your wallet if you and the children frequently going to a movie.  But if movies are one of your family's favorites pastimes, it's Regal Entertainment Group to the rescue!  During the summer, at the Dole Cannery Theatres, Regal offers free children's movies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  Showtimes are at 10 AM, but since it's first-come, first-served, and it's free, it's a good idea to get there early.  Movies are rated "G" or "PG," take a look at the

schedule to see if there's anything the children would like to go watch.  If your little ones ask questions during the movie, there's no need to quiet them, they won't be the only ones talking during the movie.

Even though the movies are entertaining, you don't want the chidren to be confined indoors during the summer!  Take them to the Honolulu Zoo for the "Wildest Show in Town" concert series.  This is a 10-weeks series, featuring musicians, singers, and comedy acts.  Program start time is 6 PM every Wednesday; gates open at 4:35 PM, 5 minutes after the official closing of the zoo.  If you get there early, you'll be able to visit the exhibits before the program begins.  Bring a blanket, some bentos, and enjoy the concert!  Although there's no required payment at the gate when you enter, the suggested donation at the gate is only $3.  And there's also a weekly ukelele giveaway.

Another venue with free admission on Wednesday (only on the first Wednesday of the month) is Honolulu Academy of Arts.  But there's free admission on certain weekend days - on the first Sunday of the month, there's free admission with military I.D.  On the third Sunday of every month, Bank of Hawaii sponsors a free Family Sunday.  The entertainment and activities are suitable for everyone in the family, but the emphasis on the activities is for the children.  Themes change monthly, and are connected in some way to the Academy's permanent collection, as well as any special exhibitions currenly being displayed.
