A person that wants to find financial freedom needs to first look at what it means to them. The idea of not worrying about money comes in different forms for individuals, so people need to see what their version means to them.
Most people think an excessive amount of money and having everything their heart desires is what it means to be financially free. It may be true in a number of cases but it is hardly realistic for the average person and does not always guarantee that freedom. People who have accumulated a great amount of wealth may be stuck living an extravagant lifestyle that stretches way beyond their wealth when considering the remainder of their lives. If a person cannot live within their means, there is no amount of money that can bring them financial freedom.
Some people can find financial freedom by living a simple life. In a sense, a person that has no possessions or obligations does have financial freedom. But, they also do not have a very good standard of living. They have nothing to lose and just go on day to day only to find the basic necessities to sustain life. An acceptable standard of living is dependant on many factors ranging from location to upbringing.
The vast majority of people will try to find financial freedom somewhere in the middle. It is easier to attain as the person increase their net worth. It is also easier to attain if a person lowers their standard of living. Finding the right balance between the two is the start of finding financial freedom in a person’s lifetime.
Once the goal is set people can use it as motivation to do the things they need to in order to meet their target. Gradually people will have to try and find new ways of generating additional income. Selling things that take up space, negotiating a pay increase, or starting a business on the side can take a lot of effort. Finding ways to reduce monthly expenses can free up money that can be used to invest. These choices are not easy to make but with a foreseeable goal in place it gives meaning to making these sacrifices.
Ultimately, if a person wants to find financial freedom they need to be able to live with the choices they make and be happy. If a person is not happy then they will eventually go back to doing the things that make them happy and never sustain financial freedom.
