Wintertime in all its majestic glory is a beautiful time of year; unless you’re a dog named Boo. Looking at this white lab you’d think that she would fit right into the scheme of things being white and all, but this is where the connection ends.
Going “outside” is a word which is very familiar to her vocabulary. Even spelling the word out sends this dog into a frenzy. But, when snow is on the ground the whole ball game drastically changes. Boo hates snow! Anything made of snow sends this dog into the outer limits. Even the simple task of going to the bathroom in the snow is almost impossible.
Watching her walk in the snow is an act which deserves first place in America’s Funniest Videos. Her legs go into a high stepping mode, and the look of her sad brown eyes is enough to make you want to hold her above the snow as she does her business. Any accumulation of snow over 2 inches or so she then goes into the hopping mode to navigate through the snow.
Even watching her squat at this time seems to bother her if you look her right in the eye. What a pitiful sight it is to watch her as she seemingly stands on her tiptoes in the snow desperately trying to do her business.
Snowballs are the only thing which can entice her to enter the forbidden zone. Throwing one into the snow causes her to growl as she frantically chases it and roots through the snow desperately trying to destroy this horrible projectile.
Snowmen are also something which she loves to attack. In her mind I believe they’re someone invading “her” domain, and must be dealt with accordingly. All that’s needed for Boo to go into attack mode (when a snowman is present) is to let her out and say: “get him Boo.” She will frantically attack the snowman; especially it he’s wearing any clothing.
It seems like the best place for Boo’s outdoor adventures in the snow is the driveway. Just make sure to watch where you step while your near the driveway. Also when making snowballs during the winter months be sure to keep an eye out for the yellow snow.
Of course I have a two phase job now when I shovel the driveway. But, with those big brown eyes staring deep into my soul, how could anything she did be wrong?
