On a Cold Winter Night
The night was clear and crystal bright.
The moon was full with wondrous light.
The trees above provided cover.
As their branches gently hovered.
The native girl fell to her knees.
Trembling in the icy breeze.
She screamed into the cold, dark night.
Underneath the full moon light.
Soon, her first child would be born.
Beside the rows and fields of corn.
One for whom she’d always care.
In times of good and of despair.
Her husband tightly held her hand.
As he rubbed her skin so tanned.
The young girl pushed with all her might.
To bring her child into the light.
The next day brought a baby’s cries.
And a mother’s loving sighs.
Born under a bright moon light.
On a clear, cold winter night.
