Book reviews: The Jesus Inquest, by Charles Foster

This book was extremely hard to choke down. Whether you are a believer or not makes no difference in this book. It is extremely factual, showing proof. It reads very historically and I felt like I was reading a law book from college on how to debate sides.

I was given this book by Sneeze Press in return for a review and there was no other compensation. I was given a few options to choose from. I picked this book because after reading the short synopsis on the website it sound like a great book for me to read.

I do not define myself as being a religious person in nature. I often question what I believe and I do not attend church on a regular basis.

I want to know. Just like everyone else. Did Jesus come back after he died on the cross? It is a pretty legitimate question that many seek the answer to.

I knew the book was going to be based on facts and I also knew it was going to post arguments for both sides of the debate. I figured that it would be expressed in mere layman’s terms and I would not have a problem following along.

I waited for this book to arrive with great anticipation.  When I finally got the download link in my email, I immediately loaded it on to my Nook and off I went to find a comfy spot to read.

It did not take long before I started to get bored.  I desperately wanted to get through this book. It was just so dry there was not much for me to grab on to.

The book was presented in such a manner that it was like a giant text copied and pasted directly off the internet and/or an encyclopedia. I was expecting more of a story as opposed to a law book. And that is what it felt like and started to read like, a law school text book. It was very dry, very matter of fact, and very straight forward.

Like I said, I knew this was a book based on facts and views; however I was not expecting it to be presented in the manner in which it was.

The book does go in great detail to show the reader what those for and against the argument do actually agree on, then points out the differences. Then it shows what they do not agree on and later points out the differences.

If you want a scholarly type read, this is a book for you. If you are looking to learn the answer to the question in more of a story format, this will not be a book for you. I am not saying this is a bad book or that I do not recommend it, I just prefer my books in a different written format.

After getting through the book, I do believe that the answers you seek will be laid out right in front of you. With all the facts, you will be able to see clearly and make your own decision.
