For far too long the United States of America has been satisfied with a simple platform of Republican Vs. Democrat. This “us against them” mentality may make for good 5 minute debate sessions from over-paid talking heads on the television, and it may make for a contest like atmosphere on election night, but as far as getting any real progress done, this current style of politics is nothing more than entertainment for the bored couch potato and weak mind. The current political set up leaves the average, yet perfectly unbiased American in a position where he or she feels that they need to join a camp so that they may belong and feel as though they are accomplishing something for America. They then listen to the leaders of these parties rant on in endless dissertations about how things should be and why they are not. The average American than puts all of their voting weight behind a candidate because they either seem like they know what they are talking about, or because they half- heartedly agree with them on a certain issue.
This ongoing and vicious circle of Conservative eating up Liberal and vice versa is the most dangerous thing facing America today. These two parties are merely the mass grouping of people who have vastly different, profound, and highly intellectual opinions on serious matters into a large area without sorting through the brilliant piece of machinery that is the human mind, and the human mind is a brilliant piece of machinery mind you. When human beings dedicate themselves to serious and civilized discourse, tremendous and awe inspiring things can and will happen. The sky is the limit when minds are put to the test. But rather than let this collection of gelatinous gray matter unite and actually solve problems that are facing us, we are forced into a blunt and ignorant party of “those guys” or “those other guys”. It is tragic. The human mind and likewise the opinions garnered from it are far too valuable and far too complex to be categorized into a simple yes or no column. No human being can possibly agree with 100% of what another human being agrees with, let alone what millions of others agree with or believe in.
The issues facing America and the world today are far more complex than we realize. If there are any clear answers to these decisive, heated and controversial debates, they can only be found after a prolonged period of intense thought and civilized discussion. I say IF there are any answers
