First released in November 2007, the Amazon Kindle has undertaken many different modifications and technical improvements as it has continued to move up and firm its position in the market. The first generation of the Kindle was sold out within the first five and a half hours of release, being out of stock for five months. Such a popular item definitely needs a cover or a case as protection from any scratches, chips, or general wear and tear.
Using a cover or case is one of the best ways to protect your Kindle and insure that it remains scratch-free. On the other hand, they can also be used as a general accessory for aesthetic purposes.
You should be able to find Kindle covers and cases from amazon.com, online auction sites like eBay, and other online shopping sites, if not from your local store or shopping centre.
There are many different factors which can differ an appropriate choice from a good choice and a bad choice when looking at what style cover and case to buy. Here are the main ones.
- Usage 'on the go'
How often do you plan on taking your Kindle around with you, out of the house, from your workplace, and to the beach? The main function of a case and a cover is different - while the cover simply is a thin, supported bag, only for while your Kindle is in transit, the case is also protection for the times while your Kindle is in use. If your Kindle just stays at home, then it's probably best to choose a case - but on the other hand, if you take it to all your vacations, why not get a cover?
- Kindle version
Different Kindle versions can sometimes require different Kindle covers and cases. This is why it is essential to note the type, not just the style, of cover and cases you are purchasing. For example, an Amazon Kindle 2 Cover is different to an Amazon Kindle 3 Cover - one fits the 2nd generation of the Kindle, while one fits Kindle 3.
- Style, Design and Color
Cases are not always chosen for protection - aesthetics has its own place as well. You don't really want your fluorescent colored Kindle cover with your gray colored handbag. However, there is so much choice that you'll definitely feel like one matches you perfectly, so get looking.
- Size
There are definitely different sizes of cases and covers for your Kindle - it is essential that you choose the right one as this might affect whether it fits in your bag. Bigger is definitely not always better.
- Cost
Based on the many things listed above, the cost of a cover or case for your Kindle will vary. They can be as little as ten dollars, or as expensive as sixty dollars. Of course, buying a highly priced case buys you bragging rights, but if you examine why one is more expensive then the other, getting the best value Kindle cover becomes a whole lot simpler.
You can find a large range of reviews, prices and cases at Amazon.com, before the decision of which case to choose arrives.
