2011, share our joy and laughter,
Rejoice with us and help us celebrate the departure of 2010.
You know, we actually broke into a merry roar as we pushed it out the door.
In frustration and anguish I was ready to sweep it out single-handedly.
But no need, 2010 saw you arriving with your bag full of hope and joy for everyone.
It knew it had to go, it had lingered much too long and over stayed its welcome.
2010 was so full of trouble causing chaos and so much misery throughout the earth.
Greedy it was, caring only to bring one deadly disaster after another.
It was so tough, hurting whoever it pleased; not much could the world do, but to barely hang on.
That horrid year had no respect for anyone; it even brought woe to our President Obama.
Not until the end did it let up and gave him a few victories.
Too well we know it was only because 2010 wanted to be remembered with a smidgen of fondness.
In tears and agony I, too, stood my ground and took its hard blows - and won!.
Though with some sadness, for there must have been some good in 2010, I did not hesitate to say goodbye.
And here I stand greeting you, 2011.
With joy and excitement I welcome you. Come right on in and stay a while.
Meet new friends and watch my skinny, happy self resurface.
Come on in, don’t be bashful, No fancy clothes needed, the welcome mat is for you.
Open your bag and let us see the opportunities, joy, hope and peace you brought for the entire world.
2011, you just arrived and already the light shines for all.
Happy, happy New Year; 2011, you are finally here!
