Making crafts with the kids is a great way of keeping them occupied until Christmas day arrives. It also means that the kids can make homemade gifts for friends and relatives as well as creating hand crafted decorations that will no doubt become the heirlooms of the futures.
Which Grandma or Grandpop doesn’t love a homemade gift from a little one? These snowman ideas are quick and easy to make and will make great gifts or decorations.
Fridge Magnets
Snowman fridge magnets are easy to make and look really effective. Cut out a snowman shape from sturdy cardboard and allow your child to paint it white. It can then be decorated with a tiny hat and scarf, black eyes and buttons and an orange nose.
Cut out some self-adhesive magnetic strips and stick them to the back of your snowman. Your kids could make a whole family of snowmen, adding little extras to make them special to the person who will receive them as a gift. For example, tiny knitting needles for Grandma, a trowel for Auntie or an apron and spoon for the lady next door. These can be bought from card-making suppliers or cut out from magazines.
Lifesaver Snowmen
Tiny little snowmen can be made from Lifesaver tubes. Leave the candy inside for a great gift. Cover the tube with white paper, and decorate as you like. Tiny hats can be made from the cut-off fingers of gloves. The can be stood in rows or hung from the tree.
You can make snowmen using the inside of toilet paper rolls in the same way. Paper will easily wrap around the tube and tuck in the ends to secure it. If you are using kitchen paper towel rolls, cut them in half first to make them the right size.
Towels
Tea towels and bath towels can all be dressed up to look like snowmen. Roll them up and tie round the middle and near the top to make the waist and head of your snowman. Next, add removable accessories, such as hat, scarf, eyes and nose.
Creamer Bottle Snowmen
Creamer bottles make great snowmen, as do any other bottle that is white already and has a waist in the middle. Add a ping pong ball for his head, glued on securely. Simply add your hat, scarf etc and draw on a face and buttons for a cute snowman.
Gingerbread Snowmen
The best sort of snowmen are the ones you get to eat! Gingerbread is a great cookie to make as it is very forgiving. You can re-knead and roll it out as many times as you like. The kids can help cut out the shapes before you pop them in the oven, and then ice them when they are cold. Use tubes of ready-colored
