The wonderful world of tarot cards is mysterious, helpful, fun, and entertaining. You can either have someone give you a tarot reading or learn what the cards mean and give readings to yourself and your friends. There are seventy-eight things you first need to know about tarot cards and that is the meaning of each of the seventy-eight cards in a tarot deck.
Buying a tarot deck is really the first thing you need to do to get to know tarot. You can purchase them at bookstores, new age shops, or online. Choose a deck that you are drawn to by the artwork. The original meanings of the cards are all the same so the only difference between each deck is usually the artwork. Also, make sure that there are both the major arcana which consists of twenty-two cards and the minor arcana which consists of fifty-six cards. There may be variations between staves and wands, pentacles and coins, and all these are acceptable.
Each deck will come with an explanation booklet. This booklet is important because it is the key to knowing your tarot cards. Make sure you put your tarot cards in a safe place and keep them together at all times. Putting them in a bag is a good idea because there is less of a chance of losing one. If you do lose one card, turn your old cards into artwork, or something, and buy a new pack. Losing a card breaks the energy that the cards have.
Protecting the energy of the cards is important. When you read the energy between you, the cards, and the person who you are reading is sacred. It is important that you treat your cards with respect and keep them energized in your own special way. You may want to have them in a bed of crystals, place them near the window, or whatever you feel you need to do to respect your cards do it.
You should purchase an extra book on tarot. Eden Gray has a good book called Mastering The Tarot. There are several others get one that your drawn too because tarot is about intuition and trusting your own is very important to giving a good reading.
You have to take the time to learn what each card means. You can do this in many different ways. You can go old school and write the meaning down. You can just go through the booklet and look at the cards that correspond with the meanings. You can do mock readings. However you memorize meanings follow your own pattern.
As you are learning the meanings you will better understand what the major and minor is all about. It will allow your own mystical side to be better concentrate and you can give full insightful readings. It does not matter how psychic you think you are, the tarot is an ancient art and the meanings are very specific. You will add your own interpretation but learn the original way first and you will give much better readings than someone who doesn’t.
There are several different spreads you can do in a reading but the easier ones are the past, present, future, and overall reading spread. You can do an oracle reading with just one card. Then there is the Celtic cross and the horoscope just to name a few. Choose the ones that you are most comfortable with and the one you have the clearest mind with.
The most important thing is to have fun. Read websites about tarot, and just keep learning about it. You are going to deal with issues of the heart and soul of humanity. You want to be as positive as you can and only warn of possible downtrodden times, and things to avoid. You never want to scare someone with what you find in the cards. They were created to help with finding ones own destiny. And when you can help someone it is the greatest feeling in the world for both of you.
