Tips for making exercise fun

If the thought of exercising makes you groan before your workout, it may be time to add some fun into your routine. That may seem like a monumental task but it doesn't have to be. There are things that can make exercising fun and less tedious.

Remember the enthusiasm you had when you first started your routine? You can get that back with just a little imagination. Look at the reason you started dreading exercising. Is it the routine of the hour in which you have to get up to do it? Could it be you feel alone in your effort to maintain an exercise routine? Be honest with yourself. If exercising is becoming more of a chore than something you enjoy, it may be time to shake things up, literally.

Many people become enthusiastic about exercising, especially around the holidays, when they have put on some weight in the winter. They know bathing suit weather is just around the corner and they want to look good. So they rush out and get a gym membership. But that isn't always the answer. For those who can't afford the gym usually start at home and lose interest quickly. If exercising isn't fun, as well as rewarding, then the enthusiasm lags and the money is often times wasted. That brings about how a person can have fun and exercise.

Teamwork

Exercising doesn't seem as bad when you share the experience. Find an exercise routine that will work for two or more people and go for it. Then you can act as a support system for each other and the time will pass more quickly than if you were doing it alone.

Dance

Sounds simple enough. Turn on your favorite music and dance. This is a great way to get the heart pumping. You can also do your exercising while cleaning house. Turn up the music and grab the feather duster or vacuum, then dance around the room while doing your chores. Richard Simmons made Sweating with the Oldies based on dance and music.

Family Time

Get your children up off the couch. They may not want to exercise at first but make it fun. Remember the jumping jacks, sit-ups and activities you used to do in gym class in school. Incorporate them into some family time. Again, turn on some music and act silly. As long as the blood is pumping, you are burning calories.

Even the Wii games provide exercise while playing. More games are becoming player interactive. If you have a game console then you have the basis for fun exercise. Check out games that provide amount of movement you feel you can handle, such as tennis.

Swim

Many health clubs and YMCA facilities have swimming pools. These make great places to take the family and get exercise at the same time. Even if you can only get there once a week, that is enough to break up the routine and still get exercise. Exercise doesn't have to be boring or routine. Plus no one should feel that it is more like work than fun.

The main aspect of exercising is to have a positive attitude. If it feels like work then it defeats a purpose. Add some fun into your exercise routine.  You may regain your enthusiasm if you try these tips for making exercising fun.
