Poetry: If you love me

by Patricia Parker

Created on: January 02, 2011

If you love me you wouldn't mind

The set of car keys I couldn't find

You'd simply shake your head and say

She's having a senior moment  today

If you love me you wouldn't stew

Because I turned your new shirt blue

You'd simply shake your head and say

That's the way she is today

If you love me you wouldn't fret

Because of the groceries I forgot to get

You'd simply shake your head and say

That you weren't hungry anyway

If you love me you wouldn't pout

Because I left the ice cream out

You'd simply shake your head and say

You didn't want dessert today

If you love me as I think you do

These things wouldn't bother you

You'd simply shake your head and coo

That is why I married you
