Created on: January 02, 2011

We all make new years resolutions on New Year's Eve, usually when we have had one too many drinks! However, once the new year is upon us, the majority of us find that we do not go through with the goals that we have set ourselves for the coming year. This is why it is important that you do everything that you can to make sure that you stick to the resolutions that you have made. There are so many different kinds of resolutions. Some people choose to lose weight, whilst others choose to stop smoking. Whatever your resolution is, there is no greater reward than achieving the goals that you have set yourself. Let's take a look at some of those all important tips for sticking to your new years resolutions.

1. One of the most important things that you can remember is that it is never a good idea to set goals that are too high. A lot of us will do this, and this is not a good idea because it usually means that we end up feeling disappointed when we fail. The best thing for you to keep in mind is that if you set goals that are achievable then you are far more likely to succeed throughout the year. There is nothing worse than setting yourself challenges that are incredibly hard to achieve, only to feel dejected when these goals have not been successful.  Set yourself some small goals that you know that you can achieve. This way, you are more likely to succeed, and also more likely to stay motivated.

2. If you have set yourself a goal like losing weight or stopping smoking then one of the best things that you can do is to set these goals with a friend or a family member who wants to do the same thing. This is a good idea because you are then able to keep each other motivated and encourage each other throughout the process. This is especially important when it comes to giving up smoking, because it can be really hard to stick with it. If you are quitting with a friend then you know that there is always someone that you can go to when you feel like giving in. The same can be said about losing weight, you can help keep each other motivated and exercise together which of course, will help in the long run.

3. Keeping track of your progress is very important. There are a couple of ways that you can do this, but one thing that you will definitely want to do is to get a diary or a calendar. This way you are able to monitor how you are getting on with your resolutions.  Another good idea is to video record your progress. This is a great idea if your goal is to lose
