"It's beautiful isn't it ?"
She turned startled by the unexpected voice spoken so close to her ear it caressed her with a soft warmth creating a shiver of pleasure to run through her.
His eyes were as deep a green as the Chrstmas tree in the display window she had been day dreaming over and they twinkled as brightly as the crystal snowflakes that were hung on its' boughs. His mouth was slightly lifted in a questioning grin, while he lazily perused her face waiting for a response.
"I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life." She shifted her gaze from his face, running her eyes down his body and back up again. With that, she turned back to the tree. His reflection stood out boldly in the glass. She sucked in her breath as she saw him step toward her, his arms pulling her close to him from behind.
Tears streamed down both their faces, glistening against their chilled cheeks, as they stood speaking to each other in silence.
They stayed perfectly still, both in wonderment of the moment when finally, with a catch in her throat she whispered, "Welcome home, Sergeant, Merry Christmas."
