Snowed in...
The weather today is frightful, for sure.
Don't know how I'll live; How can I endure?
I sleep outside under a bench in the snow.
The snow swirls around me; I've no place to go.
Through frozen lashes tears slowly creep.
I shudder and shiver - huddle into a heap.
I may not have much but I'm not ready to die.
I just need to keep warm so tomorrow I'll enjoy.
The snow builds around me; it's keeping me warm.
I smile and relax though I'm out in a storm.
I'm propping my stick and it's standing so high
In case the worst happens - just in case that I die.

Poetry: Snowed in
by Carol Gioia
Weather reports predict
a blizzard coming our way,
closing highways and byways,
suspending movement all day.
Angry laments
It dumps and clumps and freezes rumps
This cold stuff falling from the sky
Shoveling is every grownup's job
And no pay from
Having never lived, in a cold and wintry place.
The newlyweds were unaware, of what they both would face.
A snowy
White fields as far as the eyes can see
Piled high against the walls
Covering the garden and the path
There is no going out
Snowed in again today
Trapped in a white cocoon
Thinking of games to play
While stuck in my room
Waiting for the weather
