I have 5 very special cats that chose me as their human. The first (Rusty - a black and rust-colored stripped tabby) was a stray that my son found as a kitten of approximately 4 weeks old that he begged me to rescue. The second (Kira - a dark- colored long-haired calico) came to me from a co-worker as a stray kitten of about 5 weeks old.
The third, fourth and fifth are from the same litter that I resuced from my job (all are grey and white stripped tabbies - there are traits of siamese/bermese and ragdoll in two). When I found the litter, they were 3 weeks old, abandoned by the mother and very hungry. They responded instantly to my voice. There were four and I talked a co-worker into taking one. I took the other three to feed, socialize and get strong enough to find good homes. Well...they found one....mine.
Rusty, at 8 years old, has a very strong bond with me. She is very affectionate with humans but is not very social with other animals. Kira (calico) is your atypical cat..aloof and above it all.
The three kittens (Nemo , Crash and Kita ) are incredibly social creatures and excessively affectionate. All three love to lick my face and cuddle. Kit, the male, is twice the size of his sisters and had ragdoll traits about him. He jumps into my arms from the ground and finds it great fun to catch me with my arms full so I have to drop what I'm holding to catch him. If I'm not careful, Nemo and Crash like to run off with little personal items of mine, like my car keys or hairbows.
Well...if you have lasted through my rambling and bragging, it brings me to the heart of being chosen by these very special cats. Each one has a very unique personality and each one brings such love and joy into my life. Each one was brought into the world in very similar situations, to a stray female who abandoned them too early. All were rescued at approximately the same age...3 to 5 weeks old. All are being raised in the same environment...food, fresh water and litter and lots and lots of TLC, however, you could not find 5 more different personalities.
I think the world would be a better place if more people opened their hearts and homes to these very special creatures who offer unconditional love and companionship.
