The main concern when winter arrives is to stay warm. There are tons of crafts and patterns available online for free or discounted prices that will do just that - keep you warm. Whether you are looking for warm clothing craft project or winter accessories, there are patterns that are easy to follow for all crafting levels.

One way to keep warm during the winter months is to make your own scarf. There are a several designs for a variety of levels. Another good point to making your own scarf is you get to choose the exact colors you want. It is also cheaper than having to buy several scarves to match different outfits. Here are a few patterns available to make your own scarf.

Simple Scarf

The easiest way to make a scarf is by using this simple pattern. It only involves single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) techniques. This is perfect for anyone just starting out or even those who have more advanced crochet skills.

Bamboo Hooded Scarf

A hooded scarf will not only keep your neck warm but will also keep the chill off your head and ears. This pattern is for an intermediate level but could also be used by beginners who are looking to expand their crochet experience.

Men’s Winter Scarf

Men need to stay warm too. Most men typically don’t care for crocheted items. This is one pattern that is simple to make and is sure to keep the man in your life warm and happy. This scarf involves using a sc, dc, and slip stitch (sl st).

Piano Key Scarf

For those more intermediate levels, here is a pattern perfect for music lovers. This scarf resembles piano keys and measures out to be 5 inches wide and the length is totally up to you. For those who play piano, a practicing tool will always be with you. Although there is no sound, it is sure to keep you warm.

When the frigid temperatures of winter make their presence known, it is generally the hands it will attack first. Many gloves found in stores may be stylish but don't always keep the hands warm for extended periods of time. The cost of thick gloves can be expensive and it is always good to have a few pairs handy, especially during snow season. Here are a few glove and mitten instructions to choose from.

Heartstring Mittens

This pattern is designed with keeping your children warm. What better way to make sure your child doesn’t loose their gloves than having a built in string attached to them. This mitten pattern is for an intermediate skill level.
