As Human beings, we are focused more on living our lives as opposed to thinking about its inevitable ending. However, sometimes in a pensive state of mind, I’m sure that we have all given thought to the question about how we would like to spend our last day on Earth.
Here are some of the ways in which I would like to spend my last day if I knew that I was going to die tomorrow:
* Reconciliation
To me, this would be first and foremost on my mind. While I realize that this is something that could have been accomplished anytime in my life, I believe that like many of us, my tendency to procrastinate overpowered my will to accomplish it. I would like to leave this Earth without any unresolved differences among my family members or friends.
* Dinner with all family members and friends
While the logistics of this would be quite cumbersome, I believe that this would be a good way to let them all know that I love them and appreciate them for who they are as people and not just because they reside within my inner circle.
* Visit my favorite park
As a Nature lover, I would visit my favorite park, sit by the gentle flowing creek with a picnic lunch, drink some wine, and just soak in all the natural beauty. This indeed would help restore my soul to peacefulness.
* Spend quiet time with my significant other
This would be a must. I would sit quietly in my favorite chair, sip some wine and just reminisce about our lives. I would explain to her that dying is inevitable and that what we had will always be a part of her within her heart and memory.
I would explain that as I loved life, I would want her to go on and be happy. I would expect no tears, but celebration, among her and my friends after my funeral to joyously celebrate my memory. I would tell her that I had no regrets in my life and that I would be dying a happy man.
In closing, I believe the words from the song by Paul Anka sum up and explain how I would be feeling on my last day.
“And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain,
My friends, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full, I've traveled each and very highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain,
My friends, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full, I've traveled each and evr'y highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way”.
