Snow flakes are falling gently to the ground. Children are on their way home from the school closing early due to the snow. Most likely it will be a fun couple of days at home with the children from school. Of course the children will want to play in snow until they are too cold, but then what?
Coloring
Coloring goes great with some children except there are some children who dislike coloring. If you have a child who loves to color you are in luck. Give them some crayon and a coloring book or blank paper. Have the children draw and/or color picture for Santa.
Homemade Christmas Cards
Family members would love to get a homemade Christmas cards from your little ones. Fold a blank paper or card stock in the desire shape and let the child do the rest. Old Christmas catalogs can be very handy for this project. The child can cut out some Christmas stuff to put on the Christmas cards.
Snow Flakes
Snow flakes are fun to make. Take a blank paper or card stock. Fold the paper or card stock any way you wish. Then cut out the jagged cut from one raw edge corner to the other raw edge corner. Then unfold the paper. This will be the snowflake. Now fold the snow flake and cut out small designs. Unfold and refold as you wish to get the amount of designs in the snow flakes.
When the snow flakes is all cut out they can be decorated and hung up around the home.
Christmas Charades
Children don’t often think about play charades and just to make it more fun play Christmas Charades. Simply act without using words one of your favorite Christmas charters or something to do with Christmas. While playing Christmas charades get your camcorder out; this game can make a great video that grandparents will love to see as well.
Christmas Chains
Make Christmas chains that can be put up around the home or even the Christmas tree. Simply take loops of paper and connect them. If the kids would like they can cut out or color Christmas charters or things associated with Christmas to put on every fourth chain.
Cookies
Fun for everyone plus some cookies can be frozen for Christmas day. There are lots of yummy cookies and many different shapes that can be made from cookies. Cookie dough can be made form scratch or bought for the store.
Clay
Since the children have lots of time in doors staying warm from the cold, give them some clay to play with. The children can make anything from animal to cups. If desired allow the clay to dry, usually 24 hours. Then cover the clay with acrylic paint for a nice hard finish. Note some clays are meant to not dry, check the packaging to make sure it will dry if desired.
Have a Play
Children love to use their imagination and skills. Makeup a play or look up a play for the children to play out. Allow the children to use their imagination and make the play turn out anyway they would like.
The kids can make up costumes out of old clothes or make puppets from old socks or paper.
Puzzles
Puzzles can be fun for the whole family. Pick anything of interest, but age appropriate for the child. However, if the child show advance skills with puzzles, you may need to go higher in the age group for the puzzles.
Either on a table or with a mat on the floor everyone can help put the puzzle together. The 3D puzzles are very challenging and can be a lot of fun for the whole family.
Visit a craft store
There are many more fun wintry activates and crafts for children. Take a trip with the children to a local craft store to find some crafts to do. Hook rugs are popular with older children. There are paint by numbers and much more.
