Poetry: Soul-searching

by Kat Ballew

Created on: December 30, 2010

at night when the world is blue,
the darkness breathes heavy upon souls~
asking questions

the pressure is on, the mind is askew,
hoping the wind will console~
and offer suggestions

doubt permeates the air in layers
upon layers of heartache and pain~
looking within

dancing through life like a player,
forgetting consequences that remain~
rejected and chagrined

the crow sits and watches with eyes
that mock and dare you to speak~
the truth

staring at blackness, defiant,
holding your head up, turning your cheek~
remembering youth

it is never too late, words that bellow
out loud and strong, without remorse~
body lurching

to change all that was done, a weak fellow
following suit on a dark horse~
soul searching

as the sun rises to wink and glint,
to warm the troubled soul~
it blinds

restful spirit, restful mind, no resent
no longer accountable, no holds~
it finds

the soul has done as it chose,
and searching is futile, no less~
it lies

no rest for the weary soul who grows
weaker each day, with much to confess~
soul searching surmised
