God is a beacon of hope who was invented by man in order to accept his mortality. God was once a necessity to maintain a semblance of social and moral order, but this is no longer the case. People are now intelligent enough to come to terms with the fact that God is an invention of man while still wanting to maintain the mentioned social and moral order. For one to more fully understand why God is an invention, one should know why the God in question was necessary and how he was subsequently used, and how the God in question compares with what humans scientifically comprehend and can scientifically prove.
Since the dawn of man, humans have invented religions as way of giving themselves what they perceive as meaning in their lives, it grew to become entirely ingrained in the culture of almost all people. It was a necessity in some cases as it provided a reason for people to be good and abstain from misdeeds, petty or otherwise. However, as religion grew it began to be used by humans to dominate and assert their control over other humans. This has been showcased countless times throughout history, as in Feudal Europe. Religion has also been used to justify terrible atrocities committed by man, for example the Crusades and the Spanish inquisition. This reveals how religion began as a tool to keep people in order and to provide a supposed purpose for their lives but as it grew it was corrupted so that people may use it to exert their power over others. If God has existed this whole time, it would seem odd to see how he has changed and evolved in so many different ways in order to accommodate the present time.
While Saint Thomas Aquinas reasoned that humans had an intelligent design and that this meant that there was an intelligent designer, the origins of this intelligent designer cannot be explained by Saint Thomas, or by anyone else for that matter. The concept that God has a trump card over science simply because God is of a supernatural origin is simply not logical. Religious concepts cannot be removed from the laws of science simply because they are based on something that was once unknown. Scientifically, the components of an all-powerful being living in a mighty kingdom in the sky simply does not add up in any feasible or logical way, and this should be acknowledged.
It is evident that there is logical ground to debate the existence of God, as there is logical cause to want to believe in him. In the end however, it seems as though god is just an invention of man, an attempt to trick himself into accepting his own mortality, but it has grown from that, and now we must acknowledge it for all that it is: an idea.
