Groupon is a no-nonsense "group buying" site where users in more than 35 major cities can join and participate in daily discounted offers from local businesses. Offers may be for restaurants, events, or shopping and can be for as much as 75% off. When more people buy into the offer, the better the odds are that the offer will be fulfilled. Groupon.com is an easy way to get huge discounts for fun activities in a city or a great bargain for a local event. Daily offers may for restaurants, spas, massages, theaters, hotels and more, dozens of cities across the country. Groupon uses group purchasing to maximize buying power.
Each day a new offer is sent to the user via email and is also posted on the website Groupon.com. The Groupon offer is only activated when enough people have purchased the offer so it is strongly recommended that users get the word out to other users. Group participation is key.
Example: The local new hotspot nightclub is hosting the hottest new group in the area. Tickets for the event are $50 per person. Groupon will campaign to the club that if Groupon can get 250 people to purchase tickets to the show, ticket prices for Groupon members only fall to $ 25 per person.
Groupon then presents the offer to users via e-mail and on-site, and as long as the minimum is pre-purchased, the offer will be valid for purchase. Users are charged only if the terms of the offer are satisfied. The only downside is, if only 249 people purchase, the offer is not accepted and the user will not be charged, nor will the offer of $25 per person be honored. If 250 or more (depending on the offer, some offers are limited to a specific number) people purchase, then everyone who purchased is charged $25 for tickets and everyone wins.
As more people to spread the word to friends, family, social networks, groups, and other users, the better the chance the offer will be met and available. It's a win - win for all - when people spread the word. This is not a site that you want to keep for yourself. Groupon relies on social sharing.
Users can become members by signing up on the Groupon.com site or by linking their Facebook account and logging in to Groupon. Daily Deals offered in their area are then directly sent by email and posted on-site. Members are also not limited to their area, if a member in the Boston area is traveling to New York and wants to take advantage of an offer in the New York area, all the member needs to do is select New York (or any other area) from the
