January Sales

Oh, what drama the January sales

Sometimes she wins, sometimes she fails

To secure the precious booty:

Scarves, hats, frocks – “Oh, what a beauty!”

This is no place for quivering males.

Is there a more inspiring sight

Than bargain-hunt woman in full flight

Around the January sales?

Lurching between the rails

Protecting her finds with shouts, elbows and fight.

Is there more satisfaction seen

Then on the face of the Bargain Queen.

She holds her hard-won prize aloft

“I got it 50 per cent off!”

The milling hordes appear quite green.

All push and shove and grab and rush

All squeeze and pull; all crowd and crush.

What’s the cause of the ruction?

Designer dress:  £10 reduction.

Snatch and pull makes mortal ladies blush.

At last! the shop bell calls “Selling’s done!”.

Clutching bargains they have won,

Satisfied shoppers leave at last,

Aggression and panic now past,

Remembering January sales: What Fun!
