Things to be thankful for

Things I am thankful for.

With the holidays fast approaching it is easy to get lost in all the hype and
commercialism. Running around trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list and trying desperately to make the money that you have stretch so you can afford to get the gifts you want to give and still be able to have some left over for little things like food and rent and heat, it is easy to lose sight of the real reason for the season. This is the time of year when we are supposed to think about all the things we are thankful for and all of the people who have played an important role in our lives. So I have decided to dedicate this paper to doing just that.

I am thankful for my parents for raising me to be the person that I am. They taught me discipline, though I fought it most of the way, and they taught me that working hard is its own reward, because the paycheck isn't always enough of a reward to keep you going. They provided me with shelter, though at times, I chose to run away, I was always welcomed back. They have always made sure that I had the things I needed to not only survive, but to not struggle in the process. When I was going through a divorce and needed a place to stay with my kids they offered me their second house and never asked me to pay anything more than the water bill and taxes. I may not always agree with them, but I can honestly say, there has never been a time when I needed them that they were not there.
I am thankful for my children. There are healthy and smart, sometimes too smart. Hannah is fourteen going on thirty. She is a straight A student and apparently that means that she knows everything because she argues with me constantly and sometimes she makes more sense than a fourteen year old should. But I am thankful that God has given me a child with a strong will and a strong mind, she can think for herself and I know that she will be a very strong adult.
Brendan is a very energetic seven year old and very rarely sits still. He is always one step behind me asking for a hug or asking me to help him do something or just asking me to play with him. Sometimes I get a little upset with him because it seems that he is just trying to work my nerves, but I know he is just looking for attention. I am thankful that God made my son so loving and caring. I know that he will always be able to express his feelings and he will be a wonderfully spiritual person when he gets older.
Chloe is Brendan's
