Dinosaurs or Dragons

When my 14 year old daughter asked if she could go away for a week to a baptist bible camp I thought it was a great idea, and an opportunity for her to learn a little bit about religion. We are not what you would call a religious family, but I encourage my children to form their own beliefs. When she returned, I was shocked to hear some of the most incredibly unintelligent things that she was told by the teachers at this camp. In their efforts to explain the origins of the universe, they actually told these children that there were no dinosaurs ever in history! They said that dinosaurs were fake and the bones found were actually that of dragons mentioned in the bible!

Now I'm not one to knock someone for believing in something that I don't agree with, who knows they may very well be right. But they could have come up with something better than that. I mean, dinosaurs obviously existed, their bones are found in every conceivable place! Just because this little fact that a life form existed millions of years before the bible says that earth was created doesn't fit your mold, doesn't mean that it is wrong, or that your beliefs are based on inaccuracies. There could be a perfectly logical explanation. Other religions do not completely discount the fact that dinosaurs are real. I mean, they couldn't possibly believe this dragon theory could they? The bones have been scientifically dated at more than a couple of million years old! If the theory is right, how do you explain that?
That wasn't the only thing that surprised me. She was also told that Jesus never drank wine. Ok, I can see why they would not want children to thin its ok to drink, but to completely contradict what the bible says and expect these kids to follow the rest of the teachings is ridiculous! In the bible it clearly says that Jesus drank wine, he offered it as his blood at the last supper! In fact, wine was a very popular drink in those days. Tell the children that! Tell them that without certain conveniences like refrigeration, grape juice ferments and becomes wine. That's what people drank back then. It is not a sin to drink wine, it is a sin to over indulge. Teach them that now, it is illegal for children to drink so we use a special wine for church. But if you lie about that, they will wonder what else you
lied about.
I guess I just have a problem with people who will sacrifice the truth to impose their beliefs upon others. We all have our own views on religion and the origins
