The joys of being a grandparent

One of the best joys of being a grandparent is spoiling the grandchild and sending them home to mommy and daddy. You can buy things to spoil, take them out to eat, let them get their way and much more. However, the best part is spending time with them and realizing you make an impact in their lives.

Grandchildren just like children are precious and a gift from heaven. That is why being a grandparent is so overwhelming. Ask any grandparent, 99% of them will tell you it is true. There is nothing better than walking into your grandchild’s home and seeing their little faces light up because grandma and grandpa came to visit.

Another great joy being a grandparent is watching them grow up into wonderful adults. Yes, the time goes by fast but think of all the years you enjoyed watching that got them to this point in their lives. In a way, mostly a huge way, grandchildren feel like your own child. Grandparents feel like this even more if they are a part of their daily lives.

About 45% of grandparents live away from their grandchildren. Meaning they live in another state and only get to see them on holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. When this is the situation, the grandparents and grandchildren do not have the tight bond as ones who live close by and visit frequently. That is why spoiling is even more necessary for that 45% of grandparents.

Taking your grandchildren to see Christmas light displays for the first time is overwhelming. There is nothing better then watching a one year old light up from looking at Christmas lights. They make little noises that you never forget.  Then on Christmas Eve, you watch as they sit on the floor and try to open one gift from you, which by the way takes an hour for them to rip open. Well worth the wait to see their face light up at a special gift you wrapped.

When you take your grandchild home from an overnight stay at your house and the grandchild cries to leave with you. It feels great knowing he or she enjoyed their stay and will miss being with you even though it breaks your heart to see them cry. It makes you feel overjoyed that as a grandparent you are making a huge impact in their lives.

Grandparents play an important role in their grandchild’s life. Parents of the children should always know their kids need grandparents and give them the opportunity to have a close relationship. Without grandparents, who will do the spoiling? Besides that’s what grandparents do best, spoil the child and send them home to mommy and daddy.  The joys of grandparents just do not get any better.
